Let’s learn how to move pieces!!【Shogi Session for Beginners #2】

将棋には８種類の駒があります。順に見ていきましょう。
There are 8 kinds of pieces in Shogi. Let’s take a look!

①「歩兵」(Fuhyo, Pawn)

歩兵は前に１マスだけ進むことができます。
もっとも弱い駒ですが、一番多い駒なので
（それぞれ９枚ずつ持っています）
使う場面も多いです。

Fuhyo (“Pawn” in English) can move 1 step forward.
It is the weakest piece in Shogi.
But we have 9 of Pawns each other,
so you will move it very often.

②「香車」(Kyo-sha, Lance)

香車は前にどこまでも進むことができます。
歩兵と香車と桂馬は後ろに戻ることができないので
注意しましょう。

Kyo-sha (“Lance” in English)
can move forward any distance till the end.
Pawn, Lance, and Knight can not move back.
Be careful when you move them!

③「桂馬」(Keima, Knight)

桂馬は２マス前の左右に進むことができます。
うさぎをイメージすると覚えやすいです。

Keima (“Knight” in English) can move to left or right, and 2 squares forward.
It may be easy to imaginea “Rabbit”.

④「銀将」(Ginsho, Silver General)

銀将は前とななめに１マス動くことができます。
ゾウをイメージすると覚えやすいです。

Ginsho (“Silver General” in English)can move 1 square forward or diagonally.
It may be easy to imagine a ”Elephant”.

⑤「金将」(Kinsho, Gold General)

金将はななめ後ろ以外に１マス動けます。
キノコをイメージすると覚えやすいです。

Kinsho (“Gold General” in English)can move 1 square except for diagonally backward.
It may be easy to imagine a “Mushroom”.

⑥「角行」(Kakugyo, Bishop)

角行はななめにどこまでも動くことができます。
他の駒より大きく、とても強い駒です。

Kakugyo (“Bishop” in English)can move diagonally any distance.
It is a bigger and stronger piece.

⑦「飛車」(Hisha, Rook)

飛車はたてと横にどこまでも動けます。
「角行」と同じで、他の駒より大きく、とても強い駒です。

Hisha (“Rook” in English) can move vertically or horizontally any distance.
It is also a bigger and stronger piece like “Bishop”.

⑧「玉将」(Gyokusho, King)

玉将 （王将）は全方向に１マス動くことができます。
将棋で一番大事な駒で、これを相手に取られると負けです。

Gyokusho (O-sho) (“King” in English) can move 1 square to any direction.
It is the most important piece in Shogi.
You lose the game when your King was captured, or you win the game when you capture the opponent’s King!!
